PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Wonder Wheel Toy Bar for the UPPAbaby Mira Bouncer was one of my early projects at UPPAbaby and a great introduction to designing play-focused components for infants. While I did not work on the attachment mechanism, I was responsible for the central wheel toy and the two side gears, focusing on both engineering feasibility and sensory engagement. Early prototypes revealed that the wheel’s single-piece construction resulted in overly thick plastic and visible sink issues. To solve this, I redesigned the wheel as two molded halves that assemble cleanly around the central axle, improving surface quality and manufacturability.
Beyond structure, the toys needed to support fine motor development and keep babies engaged. I developed the wheel’s diagonal textured pattern and detail language to provide tactile interest and ensure it aligned with the soft, modern aesthetic of the Mira bouncer. Paired with FSC-certified wood shapes that spin and slide, the final toy elements encourage reaching, grabbing, and hand-eye coordination. Together, these thoughtfully designed components deliver playful, durable entertainment that enhances the Mira experience while supporting early developmental milestones.
