CHANGING BACKPACK

PROJECT OVERVIEW

For the updated Changing Backpack, we wanted to keep the recognizable aesthetic of the original backpack while focusing on meaningful usability upgrades driven by parent feedback. The biggest improvements centered on comfort and versatility: I added a padded laptop sleeve in the back panel, integrated a luggage sleeve for travel, and redesigned the backpack straps to be padded with air mesh to address complaints about discomfort with the previous all-webbing straps. On the exterior, I introduced water-bottle pockets that use elastic to expand when needed but sit flat when empty, maintaining a clean silhouette without adding visual bulk.

Inside, I reorganized the storage layout for better accessibility and capacity. This included adding two interior zippered pockets (one mesh, one lining) for secure organization, plus two new pockets in the front compartment sized specifically for diapers and wipes. I increased the overall volume of the bag after users consistently noted the original felt too small. All improvements were made while staying as close to cost neutral as possible, resulting in a more comfortable, spacious, and functional version that still feels true to the original design language.
